In May 2007, the Montreal Canadiens organization launched The Goal is Green program, aiming to integrate sustainable development practices into professional sports. Since its inception, the program has focused its efforts within and around the Bell Centre, with projects aimed at improving infrastructure sustainability and supporting local initiatives.

Originally tied to the Club’s centennial celebrations, The Goal is Green has become a standalone initiative with its own objectives:

  • Reduce the building’s environmental footprint through ongoing and measurable actions
  • Encourage fans to adopt sustainable behaviors through information and awareness.
Current initiatives are organized around five key areas
  • Waste management
  • Sustainable management of Bell Centre facilities
  • Urban biodiversity
  • Public transportation
  • Community involvement
All actions are designed and implemented to deliver tangible results, aligned with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals, and are monitored to assess their real impact.
